Case Study — 15 / Software Engineering Intern / Summers 2024 & 2025
Lockheed Martin — Software Engineering Internship

Architected an LLM orchestrator system to automate technical documentation and engineered robust data-migration pipelines across enterprise SQL databases.
During my software engineering internship at Lockheed Martin, I developed a swarm-like AI system that coordinates 20+ specialized AI models to automatically generate technical documentation for new products based on prior product iterations.
The system implements a hierarchical multi-agent architecture with an orchestrator AI managing task distribution among subordinate specialized AI models. Each subordinate AI is trained for specific documentation tasks using prompt engineering techniques.
Key Components: • Orchestrator AI: Central coordinator distributing tasks and aggregating results • 20+ Specialized Models: Each trained for specific documentation aspects • Data Parsing Agents: Extract and process information from historical product data • Quality Assurance Agents: Verify accuracy and consistency of generated documentation • Integration Agents: Compile individual components into cohesive documentation
Used Python for system development with prompt engineering methods to train each model for its specialized task. The orchestrator employs task scheduling and load balancing to optimize processing efficiency. The system analyzes historical product documentation and specifications, identifies patterns and structures, then generates new documentation maintaining consistency with established formats.
Prompt Engineering Methodology: • Focus on specific documentation domains (technical, regulatory, user-facing) • Maintain consistent terminology and formatting • Extract relevant information from diverse data sources • Generate human-readable, technically accurate content • Flag uncertainties for human review
Impact & Results: The system accelerated the technical documentation process, reducing time from weeks to days while maintaining accuracy and consistency. The modular architecture allows for expansion to additional product lines and documentation types.
Developed a custom web-based tool for streamlining bulk email communications, saving 5+ hours a week previously spent managing emails regarding updates, outages, and system issues.
Key Achievements: • Engineered a custom web application for targeted mass communications • Managed and classified distribution list databases to accurately route notifications based on audience needs • Successfully transitioned the entire infrastructure to SharePoint and Power Apps to provide an easier, low-code way to maintain the codebase long-term
Enhanced data extraction capabilities from Jira by parsing thousands of lines of legacy Python code. This required learning Jira's data structures and modifying both Jira stories and Python scripts to add data points into Excel summaries, improving project reporting.
Key Achievements: • Parsed thousands of lines of legacy Python code • Learned Jira data structures and API interactions • Modified stories and Python code to extract additional data points • Enhanced Excel summary reports with more comprehensive information
Legacy Code Analysis & Jira Integration: Conducted analysis of the existing Python codebase to understand data extraction patterns and identify extension points. Developed an understanding of Jira's data model, including issues, fields, workflows, and custom configurations. Navigated Jira's REST API and utilized JQL for efficient data filtering.
Extended existing Python scripts to extract additional data points from Jira stories. Modified data processing pipelines to handle new fields and implemented error handling for missing or malformed data. Enhanced Excel export functionality using openpyxl and xlsxwriter to include additional data columns while maintaining backward compatibility.
Impact & Results: • Improved project visibility through enhanced reporting • Reduced manual data gathering effort • Enabled better decision-making with more complete data • Created a scalable foundation for future enhancements
Served as the main point of contact (POC) for a large-scale data transfer automation project. This initiative involved filtering through multiple databases and exporting data to Excel via Oracle SQL Developer, while coordinating with senior leadership to gather critical data location information.
Key Achievements: • Led as main POC for a large-scale automated data transfer initiative • Filtered and processed data from multiple enterprise databases • Exported datasets to Excel via Oracle SQL Developer • Coordinated with senior leadership for data location discovery
Leadership & Database Integration: Managed stakeholder relationships across multiple organizational levels. Navigated enterprise database architectures to locate relevant data sources, mapped data relationships, and wrote optimized SQL queries to extract, filter, and transform data from various sources.
Designed and implemented automation workflows to streamline the data transfer process. Created repeatable procedures that reduced manual effort and improved data consistency through batch processing and automated export procedures.
Impact & Results: • Automated previously manual data transfer processes • Reduced data extraction time from days to hours • Improved data accuracy through automated validation • Created a scalable solution for future data migration needs
Served as a Citrix Server Technician, troubleshooting server issues that prevented critical data transfers. Through systematic error checking across multiple systems — Jira, Python codebases, and Windows terminals — identified root causes and implemented solutions to restore functionality.
Key Achievements: • Diagnosed and resolved critical Citrix server issues affecting production workflows • Performed error analysis across Jira tickets, Python code, and system logs • Identified root causes preventing Jira stories from transferring to Excel • Restored data transfer functionality through targeted fixes and configuration updates
Technical Approach & System Integration: Examined Jira ticket configurations, traced through legacy Python code to understand data flow patterns, and analyzed Windows Server terminal logs. This multi-layered diagnostic methodology enabled isolating the point of failure across the virtualized Citrix environment.
Led the creation and migration of a documentation database covering project management tools and custom internal systems. Gathered information on Deltek Project Management Tools and proprietary Lockheed Martin tools on Confluence, and systematically migrated it to a WordPress site using custom HTML/CSS to create an accessible knowledge base.
Key Achievements: • Created 80+ pages of organized tool documentation on Confluence • Migrated documentation from Confluence to WordPress, compressing 80+ pages into ~40 user-friendly pages • Self-taught HTML and CSS to customize site design and functionality • Improved documentation accessibility through organized information architecture
To create an effective WordPress site, I independently learned HTML and CSS to develop custom layouts and styling. Designed an information hierarchy for Deltek Project Management Tools and custom interfaces that allowed users to quickly find relevant documentation with consistent formatting. Worked within an Agile framework, managing documentation tasks through Jira sprints, breaking down efforts into stories with clear acceptance criteria.
Collaboration & Research: • Interviewed tool owners and power users to understand functionality • Consolidated information from multiple sources • Validated documentation accuracy with stakeholders and peer reviews • Established documentation standards and best practices
Impact & Results: • Reduced onboarding time and support tickets for new team members • Streamlined tool deployment process across teams • Improved tool adoption rates across the organization • Created sustainable knowledge management infrastructure
Used Agile methodology to complete Jira stories and sprints focused on creating deployment and tool interface guides. Through collaboration with employees across different teams, I learned about custom internal tools and produced documentation that improved tool adoption and reduced support overhead.
Key Achievements: • Completed multiple Jira stories and sprints using Agile methodology • Created deployment guides for internal systems • Documented custom tool interfaces with step-by-step instructions • Collaborated with tool owners to ensure documentation accuracy
Agile Methodology Application: Participated in sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives. Managed documentation tasks through Jira, breaking down large documentation efforts into stories with clear acceptance criteria and deliverables.
Employed a systematic approach to documentation creation, starting with tool discovery and learning, followed by drafting, review cycles with subject matter experts, and final publication.
Documentation Types Created: • Deployment guides with environment setup instructions • Tool interface guides with UI walkthroughs and annotated screenshots • Configuration management documentation • Best practices, troubleshooting sections, and usage recommendations • Quick reference cards for common tasks
Impact & Results: • Streamlined tool deployment process across teams • Reduced learning curve for new tool users • Decreased support tickets through self-service documentation • Improved consistency in tool usage and configurations
